Natraj/Neel Akash
[Charlotte St]
Set at the top end of
Charlotte St the bijou Natraj is often helpfully empty even at
weekends. Local media gimps give this a miss to flock instead
to the upmarket trough eateries that so despoil this pleasant
area. A slightly wonky front leads you into a makeshift living-room
lined with classic red leatherette chairs and neat tables. Views
of old Nepal line the walls and cod far-east exotica is everywhere
- from the shrine counter to the hanging mystic lamps. Dishes
are excellent [mutton a must!], the prices are unbeatable, service
is astonishing and the decor just so. The find of the century.
|
NB: As of May
2000 Natraj changed its name to 'Neel Akash', did a paint job
inside and out and doubled prices! The interior has been ruined
with a complete Charlotte St makeover. The dingy culinary delights
of decades banished at a stroke.
