| As of March 2003 long-time local favourite
the Borough Cafe is under threat (as is the whole area) and will
move to a portakabin nearby. The splendid frontage hid an unremarkable
interior but an exceedingly warm atmosphere: a tiny humid kitchen-space
piled with charcoal-flecked Bubble & Squeak, crusty pans
of bacon, fuming tea machines... and a sleepy cat with big-hair
fur who would often be curled up unnoticed on the window sill
or looking out of the streaming windows oblivious to the customers
who doted on it. A favourite haunt of composer Michael Nyman
too. Also in the vicinity... anonymous part-closed market cafe...
